The Short Pump Regal Cinemas got what many were calling a long overdue paint job this past week. Crews with bucket trucks and ladders repainted the faded facade of the theater in the Downtown Short Pump shopping center, one that can be seen from most anywhere around the area of the mall and even Interstate 295.

The Twin Hickory Food Lion is undergoing renovations. Workers are upgrading the appearance of the interior of the store and have removed the exterior signage, leaving questions about whether the store will be transformed into the chain’s higher end concept known as Bloom. Food Lion, who overtook the former Ukrop’s empire in 2009 as the number one grocer in the Richmond Metro area, has recently started a fierce advertising campaign announcing lower prices to compete with Martin’s, who bought out the 25 area Ukrop’s stores in January. A transition to a higher-end store model would likely allow the stores to better compete with Martin’s and other grocers in the area, according to those familiar with the market.
