Several Short Pump schools were among the 110 Virginia public schools selected by Governor Bob McDonnell and the Board of Education for the 2011 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence. The award is the highest honor under the Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) incentive program created by the Board of Education in 2007.

The program recognizes schools and divisions that achieve excellence goals and far exceed minimum state and federal accountability standards.

To qualify for the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence, schools and school divisions must meet all state and federal achievement benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and achieve applicable excellence goals in various areas.

The Short Pump area schools selected for the 2011 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence Nuckols Farm Elementary, Rivers Edge Elementary, Shady Grove Elementary, Short Pump Elementary, Twin Hickory Elementary and Deep Run High School.

“The school board and I are very proud of our schools and especially those recognized by Governor McDonnell and the Virginia Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. Pat Russo said. ”These awards represent the commitment and high expectations we have of reaching the next level of excellence and ensuring a quality education for all of our students.”
