Tuesday kicks off the first of what we hope will be many charity campaigns here on Downtown Short Pump. “Short Pump Drive” is the name of our new charity initiative. The play on words of a street name represents the hyper local focus of our projects, just as with our scope of news coverage. Our first project is to help feed Richmond’s hungry.

The Central Virginia Food Bank is in desperate need of donations. The down economy has presented a real problem to the food bank. Donations are down and those in need of their services are up. If that weren’t enough, a good friend of mine coordinated a food drive at her place of employment only to discover 800 pounds of food stolen overnight by an unidentified party. I vowed to make up for that loss and then some by starting a Downtown Short Pump food drive. I need your help to re-stock the shelves of the food bank. Together, we really can make a difference, Short Pump.

You can drop off non-perishable goods at three locations throughout the Short Pump area. They are Daily Grind (located at 11655 West Broad Street in the Promenade Shops across from Short Pump Town Center), By Invitation Only (located at 4017 Lauderdale Drive in the Shoppes at Westgate) and Stranges Florist & Garden Center (located at 12111 West Broad Street at the corner of Broad and Gayton). We sincerely appreciate our donation center sponsors! If you’d like to help spread the word by putting a flyer up in your business’s window or passing the word onto a friend, you can download and print the PDF below.
