Richmond Police responded to numerous calls for a shooting on the campus of Virginia Union University shortly before 1 a.m.
The victim was shot several times in the leg outside Newman Hall. He was transported to the VCU Medical Center for non-life threatening wounds.
The suspect was apprehended a short time later. He has been identified as Jimar Jewell, 21 years of age, of the 800 block of Lancaster Street. He has been charged with malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. A weapon that was discarded during a foot chase has been recovered.
