Holiday shoppers at four Henrico shopping malls soon will be under the watchful eyes of ACT NOW volunteers. ACT NOW, Awareness of Crime Today-Neighbors on Watch, is an award winning crime prevention program designed to increase awareness of holiday crime prevention and shopping safety.

This crime prevention program is a partnership between Henrico County Neighborhood Watch, the Division of Police, Division of Police volunteers, and area shopping malls, including Short Pump Town Center.

The ACT NOW program will begin Saturday, November 28th and continue every Friday and Saturday night until December 19th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Short Pump Town Center, Willow Lawn, Virginia Center Commons and White Oak Village are participating in the program.

ACT NOW volunteers, dressed in maroon vests and equipped with cell phones and whistles, patrol participating Henrico County mall parking lots and shopping areas. The volunteers provide the Division of Police with additional support during the busy holiday shopping season to report suspicious activity and ward off criminals. ACT NOW volunteers also enhance the relationships between the Division of Police, Neighborhood Watch, area malls, and their customers by acting as ambassadors for the Division of Police.

In addition to heightening awareness of holiday crime prevention, ACT NOW volunteers facilitate interest in Henrico County’s Neighborhood Watch program and distribute holiday safety flyers and information regarding other Division of Police crime prevention programs.
