Open High School won a 2011 Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award for having met all state and federal benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and are making progress toward the goals of the Governor and the Board of Education.

Also, Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts, a Richmond Public Charter School, has begun accepting elementary student applications for the upcoming 2011-12 school year.

Interested families are welcome to pick up an application and hear more about the school’s unique integrated curriculum during open Enrollment Sessions Tuesdays 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. (1/25-2/8) or the New Parent Session, February 8th, 6 p.m., at the school’s temporary location at Woodland Heights Baptist Church-Education Center, 611 West 31st Street.

“Like all public charter schools in Virginia, there is no tuition and there are no tests to qualify for Patrick Henry School,” said Pamela Boyd, PHSSA principal. “We look forward to receiving applications from families located all over the city of Richmond.”

Openings are also currently available for mid-year transfers for first grade only. Applications must be postmarked by January 26th to be considered for mid-year enrollment.

Copies of the student application will also be posted on the Patrick Henry website at www.patrickhenrycharter.org. Families can download an application, fill it out and mail it or drop it off at the school during school hours 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Applications for the 2011-12 school year must by postmarked by February 11th or dropped off by 4 p.m. that day to be considered for enrollment. No preference will be given to families who get their applications in early. If applications exceed space, which is estimated at 75 spaces, a lottery will be performed.

Patrick Henry School is the first elementary charter school in Virginia. The school’s charter was approved in October 2008. The school welcomed its inaugural class of children in kindergarten through fifth grade from all over the city of Richmond in August 2010.
