An update from Jon Baliles on the recent robbery on Stuart Avenue:

I received an update this morning from the Richmond Police Department 3rd Precinct Commander Crowder and Sector 311 Lt. Stith concerning the robbery on Wednesday afternoon on Stuart Ave. in the Museum District near Benedictine School.

The police are currently following a lead but are also asking anyone that was in the area on Wednesday between 12 noon and 12:45 to please contact them by calling Crimestoppers at 780-1000 (calls are anonymous).

Police feel two suspects acted when they saw a “crime of opportunity” when a young lady who works at the museum was the victim of a purse snatching. She struggled with the two assailants which then became classified as a robbery when they shoved her down to get the purse. No weapon was displayed.

Police have described the suspects as two thin black males in their early thirties, one of whom was wearing a red shirt. They were seen leaving the scene heading north on Belmont Ave. toward Monument Ave.

While police believe this was an isolated incident, they and the Virginia Museum Security will have extra patrols in the neighborhood.
