Richmond Police Investigating Toddler’s Death in Montrose Heights

The Richmond Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a two-year-old boy was found unresponsive at his home Saturday morning.

Police responded to the home on the 1900 Block of Newman Road around 3:30 a.m.  There they discovered the body of D’Sean Williams.

Neighbors of D’Sean tell 8News the child’s father saw his son watching TV.  A short time later, the father noticed D’Sean wasn’t moving, so he called police.

Friends say D’Sean was a wonderful kid who will be missed by many.

Police say charges may be filed in this case, but so far no suspects have been named.  Stay with 8News for the latest developments.

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Richmond police are trying to piece together a case involving the death of a two year old boy. Officers were called to the child’s east end home over the weekend. Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to move forward in the case.

In the meantime, back in the neighborhood off Williamsburg road, residents are saddened and left with many unanswered questions.

All was quiet Monday at the small one story home on Newman road in Richmond’s Montrose Heights neighborhood. But neighbors say that wasn’t the case early Saturday morning when there was a flutter of activity outside the home.

“It’s horrible that a kid died I wouldn’t want to speculate as to how or why it happened,” said neighbor Ian Whalen.

All Richmond police will confirm is that a little boy was found unresponsive inside and later died at the home about 3:30 Saturday morning. News of the boy’s death brought one neighbor to tears but she declined an interview.

Police identified the toddler as 2-year-old D’Sean Williams. They don’t know how he died but say charges are pending in the case.

Whalen is new to Montrose Heights. He says in his short time in the neighborhood he hasn’t noticed anything out of the ordinary, especially from the young couple in the house across the street.

“Nothing that doesn’t normally happen on any given weekend I’ve seen them come and go but nothing weird,” said Whalen.

So far, no arrests have been made, again police are waiting for the medical examiner’s report for exact cause of death.
