The Richmond City Council will declare June as LGBT Pride month during the council meeting Tuesday, May 28 at 6 p.m.

LGBT Pride Month was first recognized nationally by President Bill Clinton in June 2000, commemorating the Stonewall riots of June 1969.

In a press release by the Richmond City Council, Councilman Charles Samuels, 2nd District responded to his support for the recognition.

“I am proud to sponsor the Richmond City Council Official Proclamation establishing the month of June as Richmond Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month for the third year in a row,” said Samuels.
