Vacant and for sale last year at this time, 421 North 33rd Street will be featured at the Renovator’s Happy Hour on Thursday, March 24th.
BACKGROUND
This circa 1910 Classic Revival house at 421 North 33rd Street sat vacant for years under the ownership of notorious slumlord Oliver Lawrence. Upon foreclosure in 2010, the Alliance included this property in its Option Property Program, which targets vacant houses and works to find buyers who will purchase and responsibly rehabilitate the properties. With the help of realtor Dave Seibert, Barry Pierce, a local contractor with an interest in historic architecture, purchased the property. Taking advantage of state and federal historic tax credits, as well as being legally bound by the terms of terms of the Alliance’s rehabilitation agreement, Barry has completed rehabilitation work on the property, bringing this formerly-deteriorated property back to life.
Located in the Oakwood-Chimborazo State and National Register Historic Districts, the brick 2-story house features a front porch and a projecting two-story bay with a decorative lunette, as well as hardwood floors and a slate tile roof.
