Huge sinkhole and road washout on Pump House RoadPump House Road has been closed since mid-December 2010 due to a failure of the roadway from damaged and washed out storm sewer. The main access to Pump House Park is from the closed roadway. It is a low-traffic road and has not been high on the priority list for the DPU. It was originally expected to be closed until at least March, according to the DPU.

From Angela Fountain, Public Information Manager, City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities:

On the Pump House Road project, our department was given the Notice to Proceed on June 6th.  The contractor has until about Labor Day to complete the project but has provided a schedule where they expect to be complete by August 1st. This date will depend on how many delays there are due to weather but it shouldn’t push much past the first week of August if there are delays. Currently the contractor is clearing the site of trees and brush and setting up erosion and sediment control measures and will be installing pipe [this week].

The old 30” pipe will be replaced by a 42” pipe, according to Fountain.
