Worthless Junk couldn’t be more of a labor of love. With most of the acts consolidated right here in Richmond (as opposed to nationally, in the case of Valiant Death), the label can see the byproduct of their endeavors first-hand, be it on a Friday night at The Camel, or hearing a WJ-act namedropped in conversation.

“It’s really great, because I can print posters and what not in-house,” Bucky mentions about his Oregon Hill home-base, ”Plus, if for whatever reason we need to meet about something, we can sit down right here and just do it. No frills, no bullshit. It’s a lot more comfortable. Every day I’m getting an email from a different band wanting to know how they can get on board with the label. The whole thing has been really fulfilling.”

Fulfilling indeed. In the last calendar year alone, Worthless Junk has put out more than half of its available catalogue, including a sold out 10” from Swedish pop-outfit My Darling You!. Reggie Pace, founding member of No BS! Brass, landed a full-time gig with indie-juggernaut Bon Iver, and Black Girls have booked a nationwide tour, offering potential exposure to hundreds of thousands of new fans.

Furthermore, Lewis secured a deal with Fontanna Distribution, a subsidiary of Chicago Independent (which is the indie arm of Universal Music). In real terms, this means that the full Worthless Junk catalogue will be available by request in virtually every FYE and Barnes & Noble in the country, spreading their music across the nation in a readily accessible manner.
