The new, long-anticipated Short Pump Kroger supermarket opened to much fanfare Thursday morning. After a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:00 a.m., customers streamed in by the hundreds to check out the 92,000 square foot facility. By 9:15 a.m., the line to get in wrapped around the front of the building.

Features of the store include a prepared foods area complete with daily breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet, a selection of “comfort foods,” sushi bar, antipast0 selections and gelato counter, a wine bar complete with computerized tasting and wine by the glass, a large section of wines rated 90 points or higher for $20 or under, compounding pharmacy with drive through window, in-store cafe with wi-fi and Seattle’s Best coffee bar.

As part of the store’s grand opening, the first 500 customers each day, Thursday through Saturday, will get a selection of giveaways. On Thursday, you can pick up a free 16 ounce Jimmy Dean sausage roll. On Friday, you’ll get a 12 ounce package of Fresh Selections mushrooms and on Saturday you’ll score a 24 count pack of Kroger brand ibuprofen tablets.

There will also be drawings for a $500 Kroger gas card and gift card, flat screen TV, cruise for two and more.
