Pamplin Historical Park will conduct two Open Houses in August for potential volunteers. The first will be Tuesday, August 25th at 7:00 pm, and the second on Wednesday, August 26th at 2:00 pm. Both will be held at the main museum at 6125 Boydton Plank Road, Petersburg, VA, in Dinwiddie County.

Patrick Olienyk, director of operations, stated, “Volunteers have become an integral part of the Park staff in 2009. Their generous contributions of time and talent enabled the Park to support a significant volume of school-group activity and walk-in visitation this year. The open houses allow members of the community to learn about the Park’s volunteer program and its connection to our mission of education and preservation.”

Ranging from thirteen-year-old homeschoolers to retirees, Park volunteers serve in several areas, to include visitor services, education, costumed interpretation, administration, marketing, retail, facilities and grounds maintenance, and trail maintenance.

“Volunteering at Pamplin Historical Park gives me a great sense of satisfaction,” says George Pate, a volunteer who has put in over 200 hours since February 2009. “Helping people, especially children, learn more about their heritage is very important. The staff and volunteers work together very well to accomplish the Park’s mission to do this task.”
