Wow! What a couple of days of horrid weather! Shake off the rain and come out to enjoy the Friday for the Arts! celebration TOMORROW, Friday 11/13. Later in the weekend, there are several Open Houses at area shops, and the Arts & Crafts Show at the Train Station. Hard to believe, but it s time to think about Christmas shopping, and the Polish Pottery Shop (13 W Old St) has offered to gift wrap, pack, and mail your presents on your requested date to recipients. The 9th Annual East Coast All-Star Bowl Game
Saturday, November 28, 2009. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
The East Coast Bowl is a college All-Star Football game held each year the Saturday after Thanksgiving in Petersburg, VA. Colleges and universities representing players from Division I-FCS, II, III and the NAIA are represented in this game.
The game currently receives recommendation of players from 46 states and the District of Columbia (D.C.). Scouts representing the NFL, CFL and indoor leagues attend this event to watch the players perform.
Over 100 players who have participated in the East Coast Bowl have signed professional football contracts.
This event is proudly sponsored by the City of Petersburg and the National Football Foundation.

Centre Hill Museum s Holiday Open House
Saturday December 5 and Sunday December 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum will offer free admission and self guided tours on both days. Three special exhibitions will be on view; From Morning to Night: Domestic Service in the Gilded Age South, Seasons Greetings: Christmas and Holiday Cards from the Petersburg Museums Collection, and President Taft s 1909 Visit: A Centennial Commemoration. Children accompanied by adults are especially welcome. Six to eleven year olds will receive an educational guidebook and will have the opportunity to complete activities related to the history of the house. Many of the period rooms will feature seasonal decorations. Refreshments will be served. The museum s gift shop is stocked with many holiday gifts including books on local history, ornaments, and educational items for children.
Built in 1823 by Revolutionary War veteran Robert Bolling IV, Centre Hill remained a private home until 1936. The house features three examples of American architectural styles, Federal, Greek revival, and Colonial revival. The home was the site of two presidential visits, Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and William H. Taft in 1909. Today, Centre Hill is a historic house museum owned and operated by the City of Petersburg. New Gallery Opens in Old Towne Petersburg Verve 27, an exciting new venue for artists and collectors announces its grand opening on November 13, 2009.
Located it the Friend House Gallery, 27 Bollingbrook Street, in Old Towne Petersburg, Verve 27 celebrates its inception with an extraordinary opening exhibit entitled Que Pasa: Recent Oils by Chesterfield artist Carol Meese. Meese s dramatic installation will feature large-scale works created in San Miguel Allende, Mexico The artist will be on hand to sign her new book of flash fiction entitled Picassa Tales . Early reviews have commented:
These rapid reads of quirky characters are little ditties you want to take to bed, read during a downpour, and with a glass of whiskey. Often outrageous. these stories make you want to jump off your sofa and head for the wild blue yonder cheering all the way. The new gallery will open its doors at 6:00 PM as part of the monthly Friday for the Arts celebration. Meese s work will be on view from November 13 through December 9, 2009.
In addition to revolving exhibitions, Verve 27 will feature fine art and crafts, as well as jewelry and art-related gift items. The opening will be free and open to the public.
