The iconic circular granite fountain at 7th and Tredegar streets is in the center of a cobblestone circle. It is engraved with “The Falls of the James,” which describes the eight-mile stretch of the James River as it drops more than 100 feet in altitude over granite bedrock as it runs through Richmond.
It bears the words “Nourishment, Energy, Community, Trade” around the perimeter of the fountain. It is beautiful when lit up and the location of the fountain overlooking Brown’s Island is a welcoming sight for many visitors to events held on the downtown island centerpiece.
