A new online program which was started recently in the West End is aiming to give back to our local heroes. America’s 1st Responders, a program offering discounts to local and national stores, hotels and services, is exclusively for first responders and their spouses. The idea came to Pam Brown early this year and the program launched this summer.

“The dedication, dangerous work environments, long hours and often little compensation are realities that these men and women see everyday they put on their uniforms,” Brown said. “I wanted to do something to help. Companies understand the value of helping the men and women that help the rest of us every day of the year.”

Since the program started, Richmond businesses such as Grandpa Eddie’s Alabama Ribs and BBQ, Motel 6, Jack and Jill School, AMF Shrader Lanes, The Melting Pot, USA Baby in Chesterfield, and many more have joined. The complete list is available online.

Qualifying individuals, including active or retired law enforcement officials, firefighters, EMTs, nurses, paramedics or those in the military can purchase cards online that give them discounts at participating merchants.

“What could be more important than making the lives of our first responders a little bit easier?,” Brown added. “America’s 1st Responders has only one goal – to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who puts their life on the line for us every day. And by the number of companies who want to be on the site proves, there are a lot of companies who feel the same way.”
