The RTD’s Battle over Carytown development plan rages takes a look at the controversy around the proposed the development and the main group opposed to the project:

Don’t Big Box Carytown was created this summer as an organization of businesses and residents opposed to turning the former Verizon building at 10 N. Nansemond St. near Carytown into a 41,000square foot retail center that includes a mezzanine and underground parking.

The group’s leaders say their goal is to stop developers from pushing through a special-use permit, which, if approved, would allow for several possible uses for the building, including restaurant, art gallery and specialty grocer.
