Emergency crews pulled a man from the James River early Friday morning near the Robert E. Lee Bridge after an alleged attempted suicide.

From the Richmond Times-Dispatch:

Authorities were called to pull a man from the James River in Richmond this morning after he told them he had changed his mind about wanting to kill himself.

Richmond police Capt. David L. Martin said the river-rescue crews pulled the man from the middle of the river under the Lee Bridge at 3:41 a.m., and he was taken to VCU Medical Center to be treated for hypothermia and evaluated by psychiatric professionals.

The man told police he swam out into the river in an attempt to commit suicide but changed his mind when he got to the middle.
