A local grandmother has been charged with felony child neglect after leaving her one-year-old grandchild in a car in the parking lot of the Short Pump Martin’s. The woman charged is Stacy Thomas, whom WTVR reports is the wife of Senator George Allen’s former Chief of Staff Michael Thomas.
A shopper noticed the child in the car and called Henrico Police, who arrived on scene after just minutes. An officer alerted store management and had them page Thomas over the intercom system.
The child was checked out by doctors and determined to be in good condition, but police say the situation could have quickly turned deadly, even with temperatures only in the 70s.
