Local Dance Studio Takes Home Top Honors at National Dance Competition

Fifty dancers from four competition teams from a Short Pump dance studio attended Dance Educators of America’s 3-day National Dance Competition in New York City and earned a top award. The dancers, from Barbara Hammond’s School of Dance, earned a variety of awards during their trip.

Barbara Hammond’s Senior Production Tap Team’s entry, “Dancin’ Fool”, competed with 20 dancers and received a score of 299.6 out of 300 points, the 2nd overall highest score in the prestigious Platinum Competition, and earned an $850 cash award. Barbara and Jen Hammond choreographed this production number.

Barbara Hammond’s studio competed in 33 dances and took home 22 platinum awards and 11 gold.

There were 530 dances competing from 22 studios including 2 from Panama and 3 from Mexico.
