Ledo’s Pizza opened very recently in the still under construction West Broad Village, just behind Kona Grill. I recall checking out their website when I first heard that they were open and promptly forwarded it to my wife with overwhelming excitement about the prospect of square pizza! The shape had me, but the taste is the only thing that can keep me.
The restaurant, still being very new, was a touch empty, but we went in the middle of the afternoon, so that was to be expected. There seemed to be an empty bar area near our booth and when I say empty, I mean no booze. There were a few people siting there, there just weren’t any liquor bottles or handles on the beer taps. I can only assume the ABC license is still pending.
We tried the Spicy Toasted Ravioli for starters and it was definitely tasty and satisfying. It came with marinara for dipping, which is a must for the proper Italian kick; not too spicy and not too fried. I would get it again for sure. Since Ledo’s has “pizza” in their name, we had to give it a shot. You have three options when it comes to pizza size: small, medium and large, also known as Personal, One Tray, and Two Trays. When I say tray, visualize a tray that you might get in a cafeteria to carry your food. That’s what were talking about. We ordered a medium (One Tray) with red onion and green pepper.
Before visiting, I envisioned square pizza from Ledo’s to be not unlike the square “pan style” pizza I had many times in the past, generally being very thick and heavy with plenty of sauce. To me, that kind of pizza is extremely filling, so filling that merely considering it makes me feel full. I was very happily wrong about this. Ledo’s pizza crusts are thin. Thin and tasty. Simply said, that pizza was awesome. We had a few more pieces than we probably should have and still had plenty to carry home for lunch the next day. The bill was about $20 after a two topping tray of pizza, an appetizer and a couple of drinks. What a deal.
This is a great addition to the local pizza choices Short Pump has to offer, especially considering it’s different from anything else in the area. I definitely think they’re in a good location and should do well when West Broad Village fills with residents. Add this one to the top of your list. The prices are very good, the people are nice, and the pizza was great.
