R Home’s blog has a post about Laura Loe’s new space opening on Main St. (near 3 Monkeys) and her new inspiration. Sounds like a great space to check out!

From the article:

Laura Loe, Richmond’s talented and wildly popular painter, has moved her art gallery to 2513 W Main St. and expanded it to include vintage finds from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s for sale, in addition to her own art.

In her latest work, Laura is using found items to create assemblages. “Very different from my paintings,” she says, “but yet, not so different.” As she searched for material, she realized she had a lot of great things that she really liked but wasn’t going to use. Prices range from $5 to $5,000. ”[It’s] nifty, keen, retro and funky stuff that I either made or purchased at some delightful thrift store while doing my new works … [the store is] the only way to avoid becoming a hoarder.”

“I want to create a more casual gallery feeling — sometimes people feel intimidated in galleries,” says Laura. “It’s not alway about purchasing art but it’s also about enjoying it. I want people to come in and walk away with something beautifully designed for $5.”

“I have a bajillion things for $5,” she adds.

Hours for the Loe Gallery and RetroLoe Boutique at this point are variable, so call 366-6327 or e-mail Laura before you come.

Here are the hours for this week only: Tuesday, 1 to 3 p.m.; Wednesday, 10 a.m to 2 p.m.; Thursday, 1 to 3 p.m.; Friday, closed; Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m.; Sunday, closed.
