I’ve walked the Richmond Slave Trail many times, but only during the day. I’ve seen images of the torch-lit walk, and thinking about the slaves that walked that path under the cover of darkness — their first contact with the New World after being stolen from their own — and it brings chills.

Don’t take my word for it.  Experience it yourself this weekend or June 25. From the Friends of James River Park:

A Torchlit Walk of the Trail of Enslaved Africans caps Elegba Folklore Socety’s Juneteenth event at Ancarrow’s Landing this Saturday, June 18. Event is 3-8 p.m. The walk, complete with drumming and dramatic re-enactments, goes from 8-11 p.m.
