On Sun., Apr. 26, from noon to 10 p.m. the Virginia Film Office and the Virginia Production Alliance present the 2009 Virginia Independent Film Festival at the Byrd Theatre in Richmond. The festival is divided into a three part screening series by category.

Documentaries will be screened from noon-4 p.m., Short Films will be screened from 4 p.m.-6 p.m., and Features will be screened from 6 p.m.-10 p.m.

The Festival: The films shown in the festival were produced by Virginia filmmakers and have been chosen by a panel of judges who have also selected a winning film in each category. The winning films in each category will be announced at the festival, as will an additional Audience Choice Award in each category.

Tickets for the festival can be purchased at the theater on the day of the festival. A ticket for one of the three sessions is $5.00 or an All Day Pass to see all three sessions can be purchased for $10.00. Students with ID and VPA members may purchase an All Day Pass for $5.00.

Audience Q&A and Awards Presentation: After the films for each session are screened, a representative from each film will be invited to the front of the theatre to take part in a Q&A session with the audience. Afterwards, the winner in that category and the Audience choice award winner will be announced and the prizes will be awarded.

Audience Choice Award: A panel of industry professionals has judged these films and has already selected one winner in each category. This year, the audience will also select its choice to win in each category. Ballots will be available at the beginning of each session and collected before the filmmaker Q&A. The Audience Choice award for each session will be presented after the category winners.
