Democratic candidate James Towey, who is seeking the 56th District seat in the House of Delegates currently held by Republican Bill Janis, will begin a literal run for office May 29. On that day, Towey will begin a three-day, 56-mile run through the district, from his western Henrico home through Goochland and Louisa County, concluding May 31 in the Town of Louisa.

“I want the citizens of Goochland, Henrico and Louisa to not only know but also to see how serious I am about bringing them energetic representation. If I am willing to run to see them, I will surely be willing to hop in the car and spend time with them when I become their delegate,” Towey said.

Towey is hoping to earn campaign pledges from supporters of $1 per mile for his efforts. He also wants to focus attention on the issue of childhood obesity by running.

Towey is a former director of the Virginia State Crime Commission and senior assistant attorney general.
