Henrico dive teams searched a retention pond behind the Park Meadows subdivision of Twin Hickory, where 53-year-old Terrance Nero was shot on March 11 through his kitchen window by an unidentified suspect, allegedly hiding in his backyard. Nero suffered a single gunshot wound to the face and remains hospitalized.

“Judging from witness accounts it appears as though the suspect was hiding in the victim’s backyard before the shot was fired,” Henrico Police Lieutenant Eric Owens said at a press conference last week. “Seconds after the shot was fired, a witness observed the shadow of someone running from the scene.” That same witness claimed they saw the shadowy figure running in the direction of a retention pond behind the home, which is located in the 4900 block of Park Meadows Lane, off Old School Road.

Authorities hoped to find the firearm used to commit the crime in the murky waters of the shallow pond after K-9 units traced the scent of the suspect to it. There was no word on whether a weapon was recovered at press time.

Henrico Police ask anyone with information regarding this shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or Investigator C. E. Hanna at 501-5581.
