The Henrico County School Board voted unanimously tonight to adopt a revised version of “Pairing 3,” concluding a process that began in earnest last October when a 70-member volunteer committee began meeting to devise potential plans. The new school boundaries will take effect at the beginning of the 2010-11 school year.

The committee had provided two plans last month to the board, which then requested that school planners devise a third option based on the first two. Officials revised that third plan earlier this month after receiving citizen input at three public hearings.

The revision addressed one of the most frequent criticisms of the plan’s first version by moving students in the Linsey Lakes, Milbrooke and Crystal Creek subdivisions into the zone for the new Glen Allen High School. They had argued vociferously at public hearings to be included in the school’s zone.

But the revised Pairing 3 also sent students in the Pemberton Road corridor – who currently attend Godwin High School – to Freeman High instead. Residents of that region wanted to remain at Godwin.

School officials received more than 16,000 comments during the entire redistricting process.
