HCA Virginia broke ground last week just west of Short Pump on an $11.2 million new facility that will provide better and closer emergency care to the Far West End. The free-standing emergency center is the first phase of HCA’s West Creek Emergency Center, which will eventually include a full hospital and medical office building.

Being constructed on 60 acres off Route 288 at Tuckahoe Creek Parkway, the 10,000 square foot center will provide quicker access to full-service urgent care for Short Pump and Goochland residents alike.

“This facility will serve as a vital safety net for the entire region, improving access to emergency care for residents of Goochland, Henrico, Powhatan and Chesterfield counties,” said Pat Farrell, CEO of Henrico Doctors’, Parham Doctors’ and Retreat Doctors’ Hospitals. “It fills a gap in the region’s health care delivery system and reflects HCA Virginia’s commitment to expanding our network of facilities to meet community needs.”

Construction of the West Creek Emergency Center is expected to be completed by early 2012. The new facility will have 12 patient treatment areas, a CT scanner, x-ray equipment, a medical laboratory and a pharmacy, and it will be staffed around the clock by physicians with special training in emergency medicine. West Creek Emergency Center will be a department of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital and will be capable of treating walk-in patients, as well as those brought in by ambulance.
