Flash mobs, a coordinated dance or performance effort that take place at public places when non-participants least expect it, have been happening all over the country over the past five to seven years. A semi-recent dance based on the 1980s movie “Weekend At Bernie’s” is the basis of a flash mob coming to Short Pump Town Center on August 13th.

Around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, the music will start and hundreds of people are expected to “Move It Like Bernie” in front of unsuspecting shoppers. More than 1,000 people have indicated they might show up via the event’s Facebook page.

The dance will take place in the Main Plaza at the mall.

Short Pump Town Center is no stranger to flash mobs. In 2009, local church group Richmond Outreach Center started one in the Plaza as well.
