Developer Proposes 175 New Houses, 400 New Apartments Off Bacova Drive

The new North Gayton Road extension will pierce what Henrico planning officials are calling the final frontier in terms of undeveloped land in the West End. It’s a swath of rural acreage along Bacova Drive and Kain Road, west of Pouncey Tract. And along with the new thoroughfare comes the first plan to begin developing the land.

Short Pump developer Babcock, LLC has submitted plans to the County proposing a 140 acre development just north of Short Pump Town Center, across I-64. The mixed-use project would include 175 new houses and 400 apartment units, as well as office space.

The project would call for the realignment of Bacova Drive west of Colonial Trail Elementary School and the demolition of the now-shuttered Short Pump Community Center facility.

A rezoning request for the land could be voted on as soon as the July Planning Commission meeting. A series of community meetings are planned as well.
