The RTD reports that undercover ABC agents testified they saw numerous ABC violations, drug dealing, and prostitution at Club Velvet from late 2007 through spring of 2008. The ABC hearing is continuing, although the past convictions of the club owner on charges related to sex with a minor and illegal filming of a sexual act at the club will be excluded from evidence.
Between these charges and the President Obama as Joker poster, Club Velvet has been generating plenty of press, all of it negative. A couple weekends ago I saw the NAACP protesters outside and gave them the thumbs up as we drove by to go to a restaurant in the Bottom. I am still wondering how a business in the Bottom can afford to offend black customers? I know I am personally mortified that this is one of the first image visitors getting off the highway are seeing of Richmond.
