Bus Tour To Explore Chesterfield County

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA -The Valentine Richmond History Center is sponsoring a bus tour of Chesterfield County’s historic sites, Saturday, Aug. 1, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The tour will begin at the Valentine Richmond History Center and will travel south through Manchester to Magnolia Grange where participants will take a tour of the 1822 Federal-style plantation and see its distinctive architecture and embellishments. The tour will then continue to the Chesterfield County Museum Complex to have a box lunch and explore the site. The museum building is a reproduction of the colonial courthouse of 1750 and houses county history exhibits, including early Virginia Indian culture and artifacts from the first iron and coal mines in America. The last stop on the tour will be Eppington Plantation. Built circa 1770, Eppington sits on the banks of the Appomattox River. Thomas Jefferson’s two youngest daughters, Polly and Lucy, lived at Eppington during Jefferson’s years in Paris. Participants will tour the house and grounds before returning to the Valentine Richmond History Center.
