Police were notified of the shooting at 9:28 p.m. and found that a man in his 40s had been shot once in the lower torso and once in the leg, said police Capt. Paul Kiniry. The man was taken to VCU Medical Center for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The victim told police he did not know what had happened, Kiniry said. A witness reported seeing three possible suspects crossing a footbridge over the James River from Belle Isle to Tredegar Street.
The witness described the witnesses as three white males in swimsuits who were carrying towels. Two of the males were said to be from 5 feet 7 inches to 5-9, and the other was described as about 6 feet tall.
