In a surprise move, the owners of Movieland — Northside’s new 17-screen, upscale movie theater on North Boulevard — have expanded westward, acquiring Richard’s Rendevous, a gentlemen’s club discretely tucked away in neighboring Scott’s Addition just across the street.

“We’re extremely tickled to be able to adapt to a challenging economy by presenting pole dancing prior to each of our PG-13 and R-rated movies,” says the owner of Bow Tie Cinema, which operates Movieland. “The Richard’s Rendevous brand is a strong one in the Richmond area, and we have design teams hard at work as I speak putting aesthetically pleasing cigarette burns into all of our carpeting.”

Movieland also will begin showing 3-D adult films in its two largest cinemas, and will change the name of its popular “Movie and a Mimosa” Sunday series to “Chicks and Flicks.” Dancers at Richard’s Rendevous will begin wearing bow-ties.

Happy April Fool’s Day, Northside.
