One of television’s most popular hosts, as well as noted author and former chef, Anthony Bourdain, will have a speaking engagement in Richmond early next year. His visit will also feature a VIP event hosted by a Fan restaurant.

Anthony Bourdain will speak at the Landmark Theater on April 23rd, 2013. The renowned chef, television host, and author will visit the city as part of his Guts & Glory speaking tour, one that will showcase his insights and experiences, in addition to an audience Q/A session. Tickets for the event go on sale at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 16th. Prices start at $35.

A limited number of VIP tickets will be available that will include, among other perks, premier seating for the event, as well as entrance into a post-show reception with Bourdain catered by Strawberry Street Cafe. The VIP reception will feature complimentary hors d’oeuvres, as well as photo and signing opportunities with Bourdain.

The Strawberry Street Cafe was specifically chosen by producers of Bourdain’s tour.

Cindy Creasy, who handles media relations for Broadway in Richmond, the local group that helped bring the Guts & Glory tour to RVA, said producers wanted the 36 year-old restaurant to cater the event.

Producers of Bourdain’s North American tour “analyze the restaurant scene” in each city he visits, said Creasy, using established criteria to make the decision of where he will appear. Among them, she said, are:

  • Zagat ratings
  • Community involvement
  • Active online and with social media
  • Is the restaurant an active promotional partner with both venue and community.

With an abundance of restaurants in the city to choose from, Creasy said she did not envy the producers having to pick just one for Bourdain.

“We’re not going to question Anthony Bourdain’s people’s choice in restaurants,” she said, chuckling.
