The former Short Pump Circuit City, soon to house an hhgregg electronics store, isn’t the only one in the area to come back to life. The Broad and Gaskins location, which was a Circuit City concept store known as “The City,” and just blocks from the former company’s corporate headquarters, will soon be the new home of Rugged Wearhouse.

Rugged Wearhouse is relocating its Broad Street store just down the street with a larger store that can accommodate expanded merchandise offerings for its customers. Rugged Wearhouse, an affiliate company of Gabriel Brothers’ retail chain, has two other Richmond locations in Chesterfield and Colonial Heights, and 12 locations throughout the state.

The relocation is part of Rugged Wearhouse’s growth strategy to focus its efforts on building larger more convenient prototype stores. The new Richmond location at Gaskins and Broad is slated for a grand opening this fall.

“The Richmond relocation reflects our commitment to the community with larger, brighter, more convenient stores that can accommodate expanded merchandise offerings and better serve our customers,” said Richard Pesce, senior vice president of store operations at Gabriel Brothers and Rugged Wearhouse.

“These new prototypes can accommodate ease of shopping and wider assortments of items at exceptional values for which we are known,” said Tom Taylor, vice president of store operations at Rugged Wearhouse. “We are very excited about our business strategy and recently completed a modernization, refixturing, and remerchandising of the entire chain.”

Gabriel Brothers operates 102 stores through its Gabriel Brothers and Rugged Wearhouse chains in 11 states, employing 3,200 associates. Three distribution centers service the retail stores.
