Tomorrow, on Memorial Day you can plan a trip to the James River to soak up some sun, and plan on leaving the car behind.  “To The River and Back” is a hassle-free shuttle service that will provide an easy connection to Belle Isle on Memorial Day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

JRNH has mentioned this event a couple of time already [1] and [2]. The buses are provided by donations from the Friends of the James River Park. The article on Richmond.com some good details and info, particularly this:

THE ROUTE

The buses will run every half-hour from Ellwood Thompsons to 25th Street in Shockoe Bottom. Passengers can pick up at any point as buses head east, down Cary Street, and westbound up Main Street. The buses will cut over to Belle Isle via 5th Street, and then pick back up on the regular route.

This means that if you are picked up in Shockoe Bottom, you will not have to do a full loop before reaching the river. The bus will cut over to Belle Isle on its way uptown, and then resume course.

The 2RNB bus can be tracked at any point via GPS, using your smartphone or visiting the website. The goal is to get people to the park without having to park at the river and to help prevent drunk driving.
