How many times have you gone to the gym and biked or run on a treadmill and thought to yourself, “If I could only harness this awesome power display I’m putting on right now.” OK, maybe not everyone.  Saturday, at the Richmond Earth Day Festival, you will get to see real “pedal power” on display.

“We have some custom built bicycle trainers that we attach a bike to,” said Ethan Seltzer of Pedal Power. ”When people pedal it generates power, we harness that power in a set of batteries. That power can be used for a variety of things. At Earth Day we’ll be providing electricity for the food vendors and a portion of the band setup.”

Seltzer said that they will have nine trainers and bike set up at the Earth Day Festival and are still looking for a few volunteers to help create some energy!

According to its website, “Pedal Power is about promoting a more self-sustaining lifestyle by demonstrating simple steps we can all take in reducing our energy use and impact on the environment. It’s as fun and easy as riding a bike!”

The Earth Day Festival is Saturday noon to 7 p.m. at Plant Zero and the Floodwall on Hull Street. Need directions?
