The Rundown
Sure, VCU Rams beat the William & Mary Tribe on January 19th. And while “emotional victories” may not actually exist, W&M probably felt half-decent after an overtime loss to the Rams. This time the Rams will look to destroy an inferior team as they try to keep pace with CAA-leading George Mason (18-5, 10-1).
The Team
Picked to finish 6th in the CAA, William & Mary has had a disappointing season. It’s difficult to pinpoint what the Tribe does well; they’re picked to lose every game for the rest of their season. While freshman Marcus Thornton gave the Rams fits in January, his offensive rating is abysmal and the Rams will have undoubtedly learned from their previous close encounter.
The Star
Senior Quinn McDowell is the Tribe’s go to guy. After three solid seasons with a top-100 offensive rating nationally, McDowell’s performance has slipped. The only statistics that Ken Pomeroy ranks him in the top 500 nationally are minutes played and turnover percentage. That being said, McDowell has proven to be explosive–especially from behind the arc. Don’t be surprised if he takes 13 shots and puts some points on the board.
The Prediction
Ken Pomeroy picks VCU to win 70-53 with a 94% chance of victory. That being said, the Rams were favored to win 77-52 with a 98% chance of victory on January 19th before the game went to overtime and the Rams escaped with a one point victory.
