Turns out we get to have some sports talk around Richmond that doesn’t involve baseball.

Yesterday the American Indoor Football Association announced that they will hold its 2010 all-star game in Richmond. Taking place in January, the game will pit AIFA’s top players with Richmond’s yet-to-be-named new team.

Meanwhile, the Indoor Footbal League (based right here in town) announced today that they will house a new team of its own in the Arthur Ashe Center until it moves to the SportsQuest facility in Chesterfield in 2011.

While these developments are exciting for indoor football enthusiasts (are there really any?) does Richmond as a whole care about this sport? Moreover, can we even handle supporting two teams considering our attempts to hold on to baseball and hockey fell apart?

And on a side note: Tryouts for the AIFA league will be taking place in September. They’re also taking suggestions for the team name! Visit the AIFA in Richmond site to submit your idea.
