The Virginia High School Mountain Bike Series updated with pictures

Racers are on the track.

Update #1 — April 20, 2016; 8:55 AM

Read in full about Richmond Cycling Corps day here but this story stood out.

Darrell flatted at the end of his first lap of the JV Boys race. He was sitting in the top 12 when it happened. We’ve never seen a kid do this, but he rode a rear flat tire for an entire lap. When he passed we asked him what he wanted to do: “I haven’t given up yet, no sense in quitting now” he yelled back. Darrell finished after riding over 3 difficult miles of mountain biking on a flat tire (without destroying the wheel!).

The Virginia High School Mountain Bike Series (VAHSMTB) is Virginia’s official interscholastic mountain bike race series. Sanctioned by USA Cycling, VAHS MTB offers competitive racing for riders of all ability levels. The series is open to ANY high school, middle school, or elementary school student.

Today starting at 4 PM racers will take the course. The first racers will be middle school students followed by elementary school students. Varsity and JV then hit the track (seen above) starting at 5 PM. Exact times and more information can be found here. Although the race doesn’t start until 4, the course will be open for the riders to check out starting at 2 PM so don’t be surprised by the extra traffic.

What you can expect to see.
