The great Flying Squirrels unveiling
Hey everyone, it’s Nutzy, the new mascot for the Flying Squirrels. Let me just say, he’s got some mean abs.
We are at the Byrd right now with the unveiling of the Squirrels uniforms, mascot, and what not. We will be posting photos here LIVE as it’s happening. Just know, it’s dark in here and our iPhone is trying its best.

Nutzy. This is why people don’t take Richmond seriously.
My favorite tweet was “So. many. highfives.” My question is why are there so many kids there? Field trips? I thought this was going to be a press conference or something.
Really?! Nutzy? Really?! And this is why I’m moving to Blacksburg, to escape the shame that is living in the Nutzy City.
My friend from China has pointed out that the name is mighty similar in sound to the word “Nazi.” Try as she might to pronounce it as Nutzy, it kept coming out in Third Reich style.
I love Nutzy! This matches farm-team baseball perfectly: Don’t take it too seriously.
It’s rather amusing that some people are taking this mascot thing so seriously. This is AA baseball people… it’s for the families, kids, and kids at heart who want to sit back in the summer sun and enjoy a game. I myself am not a baseball fan however I do understand that it’s not the job of the owners of the Flying Squirrels to sooth your obviously fragile egos. Get over yourselves.

Seriously though, what happened with the big push to name the thing Weather Dan?
I think Nutzy is cute. It’s for the kids as some people have pointed out. Although, his face is a little scary if you ask me. It’s like a big grin but with angry eyes, making it a little creepy. But if you’re going to be the flying squirrels, you might as well be Nutzy.
He looks CGI in the press photos. And more like a dog than a squirrel. Do flying squirrels not have the same two little buck teeth as gray squirrels? I don’t know if the cutesy name goes with the “bad motherfucker” look they put on the costume’s face.
But the real question is, will they have big, relatively cheap beers like other minor league teams?
Oh My. That song is terrible. Even if it is for the kids. Let’s not let that ever happen again. Ever. I almost cut my ears off.
What is with these haters! I can’t understand it. It’s a frigging minor league baseball mascot, and it’s adorable. My beloved Phillies have the worst/best mascot ever. It’s supposed to be FUNNY and FUN and also FUNN.
keep in mind, AA baseball is worth more in merchandising then it is in anything else… I’d imagine a lot of ppl buying ‘nutzy’ plush toys, t-shirts, and giant foam #1 Hands

I’m 77 yeaar old geezer who didn’t like the names at first blush. But I gave it a few days to sink in and now I think it is great. The powers that be did a good job of building on the name and it should be really entertaining. Go get ’em Nutsy.
