After a 2-4 road trip through New Britain and Bowie, the Squirrels return to the Diamond for 3 with the Reading Phillies.

After dropping the 1st game of the series to tally their 4th straight loss, the Squirrels escaped a furious Bowie comeback to take the 2nd game. Richmond then blanked the Baysox in the closer as Felix Romero picked up his 4th win of the season after pitching 5 shutout innings. This victory gave Richmond a series win and brings the club back to within 3 games of .500.

The Squirrels return home tonight for the next-to-last homestand of the season for 3 with the Reading Phillies. While it unlikely that either team will see the play-offs, neither has been eliminated yet. Despite the lack of wins, the Flying Squirrels and Reading are neck-and-neck in the race for the league lead in total and average attendance. Reading is averaging 6,558 per game through 61 home games, Richmond is pulling 6,497 per game through 63. (Let’s note that the AAA Gwinnett Braves are getting only 4,766 per game…). To boost the crowd and to go out with a bang, the promotions will be tight these last 7 games. This week will see a helicopter dropping random stuff to see what they can make fly, a return of the dog-friendly Bark in the Park, and another round of fireworks.
