The Squirrels took their only series this season in New Hampshire 2-1 from the then Eastern Division-leading Fisher Cats (66-47) and beat the Sea Dogs 7-4 in the opener at Portland (Maine).

Richmond won their first ever game in New Hampshire 4-2 in 10 innings on a 2-run Thomas Neal sacrifice. The Fisher Cats made it look easy in the second match-up, winning 9-0 in a game most notable for catcher Tyler LaTorre’s 2 innings of 2-hit, no run pitching to end the game. The Squirrels closed out the series with a 10-0 win over the Fisher Cats, marking only the 4th time that New Hampshire has been shut out all season. These would’ve been 3 great games to see…

In the opener of their first series in Portland’s Hadlock Field (above), the Squirrels got a win for the newly returned Daryl Maday (9-5, 2.30) in a 7-4 victory over the Sea Dogs (53-59). After games tonight and Sunday in Portland and an off day on Monday, the Squirrels return to the Diamond for their only home series of the season with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Portland Sea Dogs.

The Flying Squirrels (55-57) have picked up 2 games since the last post and are only 2 games under .500. The New Britain Rock Cats (33-80) were officially mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, the first team to hit that mark this year. With the Reading Phillies (55-56) trailing them by 10 games and not gaining, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats will start selling playoff tickets next week. The Bowie Baysox (62-50) have moved to within 3 games of the Western Division-leading Altoona Curve (65-47). The 3rd place Harrisburg Senators (60-53) have won 8 straight going into tonight’s game with the Curve and might be making a run for the 2nd playoff spot.
