Again the Flying Squirrels come off a commanding win over the Reading Philies for a series with the Binghamton Mets. Also: BOGO KRAFT Singles Tuesday Night Tickets, baseball give-a-way, free floppy hats, and more *%$! fireworks.

Richmond lost 3 of the 4 recent games in Reading, but won a doozy of a morning game on Monday. David Mixon pitched into the 8th inning, allowing only 2 earned runs and 8 hits. He also followed up a Skyler Stromsmoe HR in the 1st with his own homerun in the 3rd (the first of his career). Tyler La Torre knocked in a 2-run homer in the 9th to to cap Richmond’s 7-2 victory over Reading. This was the Squirrel’s last game in Reading for season, putting them at 3-8 for the year at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Squirrels (31-33) split a 4-game series in Binghamton back at the end of May. Going into that series, the Flying Squirrels were 5 games above .500; they’ve since lost 12 of 17 and have fallen to 31-33 and 4th place in the Western Division. The Mets (30-33) haven’t exactly been hot, bumping along around .500 themselves.

Like before, this ought to be a contest of the Mets’ hitting vs the Flying Squirrels’ pitching and defense. The Mets’ Nick Evans, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, and Zach Lutz are among the league leaders in homeruns and Binghamton has scored some runs: Binghamton is 4th in the Eastern League with 313 runs in 63 games (4.96 per game). The B-Mets are among the heaviest-hitting, highest-scoring team that the Flying Squirrels have faced this season and managed to put up 10 and 9 runs in the 2nd and 3rd games of the last series.

The B-Mets are still letting through a lot or runs for the other guys, though. Trailed only by the woeful New Britain Rock Cats (17-45), Binghamton has allowed theor opponents over 100 more runs than league-leading Altoona (and 74 more than Richmond).

These 3 games will be Binghamton’s only visit to Richmond this season.
