After failing to find enough money to remain financially viable, the Richmond Renegades announced last night that they’re going out of business effective immediately.

Unless someone steps up soon with the money Harvie needs or another league puts a franchise here, there will be no pro hockey in Richmond next season for the first time in 20 years.

Sad? I guess? Remember when the Renegades were in the ECHL and kicked some serious tail around ’94-’96? That was some fun hockey to watch.

this is slightly sad to me just bc it’s one less thing to do in richmond, but not really bc i never went anyway. it’s hockey. snore. baseball. snore.

instead of baseball or hockey, i’d like to see richmond as an east coast hub of MMA / ultimate fighting. how cool would that be!? it’s like if you went to a hockey game and they took out all the crap (hockey) and just had the fights.

    oh yea.

I always thought they should merge football with MMA, no pads anything goes, GWAR plays at half-time!

Man I just got into the Renegades at the end of this season…I wish I hadn’t waited so long to go to a game. :(
