PHOTOS: down by the river for the Outside magazine photo shoot

On Monday a bunch of kayakers got together to help promote Richmond’s entry in Outside Magazine’s Best Town Ever contest.

Barring the miraculous, Richmond will be the runaway winner in Outside Magazine’s Best Town Ever Facebook contest. Among the ten finalists, Richmond leads (at publication) with 8,085 votes. The closest competitor–Hood River, OR–has 2,714 votes.

To help promote the contest, a handful of kayakers took to the James in a show of support for Richmond. Here’s a bunch of photos documenting the afternoon (and our awesome river).

To vote Richmond in the Best Town Ever contest, Facebook users must “like” the page. Voting ends Wednesday, July 11th.

The contest is not just won by majority vote. We need great comments and photos to win this. It’s not a guaranteed win yet. I also think it’s pretty pathetic that we only have 3 times the votes of Hood River when we have about 30 times the population! We should be winning by a lot more.

  2. For a different kind of picture of our beautiful James River I took advantage of going to the good-bye part got the “old” side of the Huguenot Bridge and took some digital pictures and reformatted them digitally into a soft, compelling, watercolor scene. Enjoy!
