Ottawa REDBLACKS to use the Redskins Training Center

The REDBLACKS are an expansion team and will play their first season in 2014.

The Ottawa REDBLACKS (ax wielding mascot seen above) of the Canadian Football League have signed a deal with the city to use the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in April.

Before you think that Richmond financial troubles are over with news of another professional football team using the empty facility you should know that the training camp runs from April 8th through the 10th. Details from Richmond Times Dispatch.

“Richmond is thrilled to welcome the Canadian Football League to Virginia,” Mayor Dwight C. Jones said in a statement. “The training facility we’ve established is state-of-the- art and we expect to continue to generate great interest in our facility and usage for many years to come.”

Tammy Hawley, press secretary to the mayor, said the agreement is in line with what the city had envisioned all along for the site, that it would be used for other events when the Redskins weren’t in town.

Hawley referred questions about the financial arrangements to SMG, which declined to provide specific dollar figures.
