Kickers beat Pittsburgh, heading to the Finals!

The Kickers hosted the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the semi-finals of the USL-2 and took it to them!

The Kickers hosted the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Saturday night in the semi-finals of the USL-2 and took it to them! Richmond was dominate throughout the game and kept the Riverhounds on the defensive pretty much for the first 70 minutes or so until the Riverhounds really started pressing hard to try to dig their way out of their 2-0 hole. Like always at those times, the game got physical and aggressive but the Kickers sustained and held on for a convincing victory!

The Kickers got lots of chances throughout the game and it took Pittsburg’s goalie making some amazing saves (and to be fair, our guys missing some easy ones) to keep it just 2-0. Edson Elcock in particular played very well and created lots of problems for Pittsburgh. The goals came from a Matthew Delicate header (assist from Dave Hertel) in the 37th minute and a Bobby Foglesong finish (assist from Delicate) in the 50th minute.

The Kickers advance to the finals which will be played next Saturday in Charleston, SC. The game will be televised on Fox Soccer Channel at 6pm so you have a chance to watch the Kickers attempt to repeat as champions even though the game won’t be in town.
